How to be Successful with Your New Year's Resolutions
As the stress and intensity of Christmas dissolves into the relaxed summer days that follow and you start to consider your options for New Year’s Resolutions, take a moment to consider the resolutions of New Year’s past.
What did you resolve to do or not to do? Were you successful? What factors contributed to that and what might you do as a result of those learnings to plan for success this year? What patterns can you see in your life as you look back?
New year’s resolutions can be a bit of a joke and we all have made light of them at some time. In a modern culture and lifestyle that is sometimes lacking in ritual and meaning making your resolutions consciously may be way of filling that gap.
Take some time for yourself and find a quiet comfy spot. Consider how satisfied you are with various aspects of your life (see chart). Now write down what percentage of your life is devoted to each of these areas and what percentage you’d like it to be. What could you do to address any imbalances? Are these realistically do-able? No? then break them down into do-able steps. What support can you put in place through the year to help you keep on tack and remain mindful of your goals?
Sharon Lenon, Principal at Illuminate Wholistic Coaching, says that the support tool she prefers is kinesiology or muscle testing. And she’s not alone as it’s become the world’s fastest growing natural therapy.
“In the 1970’s a number of doctors discovered that the body itself can be used as a bio-computer providing access to a huge store of objective information. Through the use of muscle strength or weakness, the body bypasses the mind and its judgments and ‘talks’ to us in a binary or yes/no manner. As a result we can access sub-conscious information about emotions, past events, mental programming, beliefs, imbalances and healing needs” says Lenon.
Logic tells us that we can’t build an office block without someone first having the idea. Physics tell us that reality is a projection of our thoughts. We all experience the mind/body connection when we’re feeling worried or angry and Psychology tells us we are products of past experience. All this comes together in kinesiology and proponents say it can help us unravel who we really are, clear the beliefs and feelings that are no longer useful and then be free to make choices and act from a more secure and integrated position. Lenon asserts “This will change the way your life unfolds and reduce limitations”
If you’re wondering if you’re really getting anywhere or you’ve noticed repeating patterns in your life or maybe you are simply interested in being successful with your goals, you might also consider using kinesiology to identify and rid yourself of the negative beliefs and stored emotion that are holding you back.
